Mechatronics Design Engineer

Mechatronics Design Engineer

As an Mechatronics Design Engineer, you will be part of a energetic team of embedded systems engineers, software developers, and data scientists. Together we create sensors for the future of agrotechnology. Being responsible for the electro-mechanical architecture and design, you will be central to the implementation of prototypes, manufacturing transitions and successful market launch.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement technical concepts and structural requirements in an agile team environment.

  • Design electromechanical assemblies, with careful consideration of performance, usability, reliability, cost and manufacturability.

  • Assemble and test demonstrators and prototypes in the laboratory, and present your achievements.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing and external partners to define manufacturing and assembly processes.

  • Prepare technical documentation and concepts for acceptance tests and quality assurance.

Minimum qualification

  • BSc or MSc degree in mechatronics engineering or similar field.

  • 3+ years of work experience in designing electromechanical products.

  • Proficiency using CAD and PCB design software.

  • Self-driven with the ability to excel in a multi-disciplinary and focused team environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience optical sensors is a strong plus.

  • An in-depth understanding of electrical components, wiring, and troubleshooting of electronic systems.

  • Hands-on experience with 3D printing, machine shop tools, solder stations etc.

  • Experience with manufacturing technologies for optics, electronics and mechanical components (i.e. injection moulding).

Description

We are looking for a Field Applications Engineer for our Spray Logics systems. In this role, you will support our partners on a regional and worldwide scale, providing technical knowledge and developing localized solutions. In this position you will work closely with customers solving technical issues, performing field tests and optimizing best field configurations.
The Field Application Engineer will work in close collaboration with the R&D team, as well as with Sales Managers from partnering companies, as needed, to provide effective support to companies in the Trentino region but also worldwide.
Your role will be vital towards the mission to reduce herbicides and make agriculture more sustainable.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain sensors on agricultural machinery.
  • Perform field tests and demonstrations to potential customers.
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support.
  • Engage in troubleshooting activities and development of novel Precision Agriculture applications.
  • Validate developed solutions in field tests in collaboration with partners, and identify specific regional needs.
  • Participate on the development of new solutions and prepare technical documentation.
  • Ensure that partners/customers in the region have the tools, equipment, information and software necessary to offer technical support to the products.
  • Train partners’/resellers’ technicians, ensuring they are prepared to configure and set-up on a wide variety of machine types.
  • Gain insight and understanding of competing technologies and products; provide feedback to the technical team.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BSc in a technical field (i.e. agricultural engineering, mechatronics), or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic systems and metrology instruments.
  • Knowledge of the agricultural practices and techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to take initiatives and build productive cross-functional relationships.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Fluent in Italian and proficient in English.

Preferred Skills

  • Practical experience in agronomy and knowledge of crop production and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in the agricultural market, in particular the field precision farming is a plus.
  • Data management knowledge and experience performing extensive series of measurements.
  • A passion for agriculture, technology and biodiversity.

Student Researcher (PhD or Master Thesis)

Description

As a Student Researcher you will work closely with our R&D team exploring new solutions to shape the sensors of the future of agrotechnology. We are particularly interested in spot spraying solutions that can be solved by the application of algorithms based on machine learning, computer vision and signal processing, including solutions that involve the use of our proprietary imaging systems and sensors.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on a research question of interest which we define as a team

  • Application of machine learning methods, computer vision and deep learning for agronomy solutions. This includes defining the data set for the problem as well as training and testing of baseline and complex models.

  • Deploy machine learning models to our sensor systems and post-processing frameworks. Validate the models in real-world scenarios.

  • Work directly with senior developer, scientists and/or mechatronics engineers.

  • Conclude the project with a technical report which is anticipated to be published in scientific journals or conference proceedings.

Minimum qualifications

  • Enrolled in a graduate program (MSc or PhD) in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Mathematics, Physics, or an allied discipline.

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively.

  • Enthusiastic and inquiring team player with a high degree of flexibility.

  • Proficient in Italian and English.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with optical sensors and/or robotics is a strong plus.
  • An in-depth understanding of electrical components, wiring, and troubleshooting of opto-electronic systems.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing technologies for optics, electronics and mechanical components.

Student Trainee

Description 

The focus of your internship will be on research and innovation. You will be part of the R&D team developing optical sensor prototypes and new solutions in the field of agrotechnology. Based on your skills we will assign you challenging tasks in data science, prototype assembly and verification experiments.

Responsibilities

  • Support and work within our technical team by executing various tasks: rapid prototyping, 3D printing, coding, lab work (soldering, mechanics, etc.)
  • Build-up optical sensor prototypes and test tools/jigs
  • Perform experiments and analyze and present the results

Minimum qualifications

  • Enrolled in a technical school or university in Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or an allied discipline
  • Python programming skills
  • Fluent in Italian and English

Preferred qualifications

  • Basic programming skills in C++
  • Enthusiastic and inquiring team player with a high degree of flexibility
  • Proactive and independent work attitude
